Q: Does "3000" mean it will lift 3000 pounds?

​No, the model number of our hoist refers to the maximum amount of torque that it can output, not weight capacity. Because our products can be rigged in multiple ways on lifts, it is impossible for us to label them in terms of weight capacity. The pipe/cable winder surface where the cable wraps up as well as how the lift cable is rigged for mechanical advantage (block & tackle) both affect speed and torque by considerable margins. Lift manufacturers use these specifications to determine how much torque is being applied to each gear drive based on what overall weight capacity they aim to lift, allowing them to select the appropriate size product from us.

Q: Can I use a 3450 RPM motor?

No, the gears on the Flat Plate are specifically designed to be powered by a 1725 RPM motor.  Using a faster motor will void the warranty and could lead to accelerated wear and/or catastrophic failure of the lift.

Q: Can I rotate the hoist sideways?

Yes, the hoist can be mounted horizontally if necessary for clearance, however, the recommended orientation is vertically as shown above. The major issue this presents is the motor weep holes are no longer at the lowest point.  This could result in a buildup of condesate or intruded water into the motor that could not escape.  This is typically not a common issue but is a possibility.​

Q: Is there a DC option for the Flat Plate?

There are 56 Frame DC motors and controls available that will mount to the Flat Plate.  Contact us for more details.

Q: Is there a remote control option? 

Yes, the motor on the Flat Plate is compatible with most boat lift remote controls and the reversing switch can be upgraded to a GEM remote control for an additional fee.

Q: Can I change the belt or electric motor with the lift up?

No, even though the motor is not a brake-motor and it is the gear inefficiency that holds the load, you should never perform any kind of maintenance or repair with the lift raised any amount.  If the lift cannot be lowered normally, you must support the lift with straps or chains.  Some online suppliers sell a drill adapter that can spin the drive pulley and bypass the electric motor.

Q: Can I order a Flat Plate with the belt-drive on the opposite side?

Yes, while the standard Flat Plate has the belt-drive stage on the right side, we can manufacture units with them on the left.  We refer to this as a "Left-Hand Plate."  We also make rear covers to fit both as well.
